WX8S participated in the 2025 ARRL RTTY Roundup as a single op effort. Kudos to recently licensed YL Rianna KF8CEB for having the guts to take on a contest all on her own, even a digital one at that, and gaining valuable experience setting up for RTTY, learning how to use the new mode, configure the software, and run in the contest!
This was by no means a race for high points nor to work multipliers – it was a way for a new op to gain new skills and explore something new that otherwise is not typically a focus for the ops of WX8S.
It was very rewarding to see how even new ops can take on challenging operating parameters and come out successful. While watching Rianna make contacts, it in a way piqued my interest how RTTY has the benefit of easy copy like SSB but with QSOs structured with macros like CW… sort of a best middle of the road hybrid that realized can be a very efficient and enjoyable way to operate.
We look forward to WX8S participating in RTTY events again in the future as a multi-person effort.
